The employees of Flexsteel Industries recently made a generous donation of 6,300 meals to St. Stephen’s/River Bend Food Bank located in Dubuque, Iowa. This donation was made possible through Flexsteel’s annual “Pack the President Office Challenge” through employee contributions to support local nonprofits, primarily food pantries.
As part of the Company’s commitment to coming together this holiday season and supporting those in need, through the month of November, over 150 Flexsteel corporate headquarters and remote employees packed the president’s office by bringing food donations to the site.
“Our employees once again went above and beyond in a great Holiday tradition of giving to those who are really in need,” said Jerry Dittmer, President & CEO of Flexsteel Industries. “I am grateful to be part of such a great group of folks who really care.”
During 2021, Flexsteel employees packed Jerry’s office so full that he had to temporarily relocate, donating more than 6,500 food items, totaling more than 7,000 pounds, to St. Stephen’s – River Bend Food Bank.
In light of the rising costs of groceries each month, the Company was reminded of more than just inflation pains and understood the need was even greater in 2022. Therefore, Flexsteel aimed for an increase of 1,500 units for a shared goal of 8,000 items this year.
Flexsteel exceeded this goal with an increased total of 8,427 items that filled seven pallets and weighed nearly 6,400 pounds. According to the food bank, this amounts to approximately 6,300 meals. It was mentioned by the Company’s partners at St. Stephen’s/River Bend Food Bank that this year’s drive was just in time given the increased need in their area over the last six months.
The Company has consistently donated to local causes in the communities they operate in. Flexsteel has also recently instituted a policy for paid time off to conduct community and charity service hours. The spirit of giving around the holidays is a great way to end the year.
